Last year Bill Scott ('63-'65) and his wife, Alberta, returned to camp. Bill was kind enough to sit and share some Pinecrest stories. Here's a little bit of what he said:

Q: Can you tell me about yourself?
A: I was the Indian Crafts Counselor. I was never a camper at Pinecrest, but my dad knew Derbo, Mr. Ward. Tom liked to hire counselors who had been campers, and kids in college training to be teachers. I was studying to be a teacher. I taught math, social studies and computer science at Bethpage High School. That's where I met my wife. I have 3 kids and they attended camp here in the 80s.

Q: Can you tell me about the friendships you made?
A: It's like the conversation has been paused a bit. Barbara Libath started the Facepook page...it's wonderful. Chris Sallo, my CIT, wrote the book on how to be a counselor...we're still in touch...he was my role model...he was 17 and the CIT but he knew how to run the cabin.

Q: Did camp have any long-term affect on you?
A: That's like asking what impact college had on you. Huge. Think about how much you matured [in college]. Some of the schools in the country could have learned from us how to treat everyone well.

Q: Do you have any hopes for future of Peconic Dunes?
A: It offered so many things to the people when it was Pinecrest Dunes. I hope that continues. There's so many things you can do here you can't do at home.

Thank you Bill! Hope to see everyone there!
